5 Beginner Tips to Prepare for Your Laser Hair Removal Session
Hello, lovely!
Congratulations, you've booked your first laser hair removal session! A little preparation will have you feeling confident and ready to shine, regardless of whether it's your first time or you just need a little refresher. Laser hair removal is much safer and more effective than you might imagine. We'll be there for you at every turn, so let's get started. Here are five quick and simple ways to get ready and look your best!
1. Shave, Don’t Wax
Right, here's something important: The laser needs to target hair roots, so any hair removal method that pulls hair out from the root, such as waxing, tweezing, or threading, is a no-go. That’s why we recommend avoiding these methods for at least four weeks before your session. Shaving’s totally fine and even encouraged, Just make sure to shave the treatment area about 24 hours before your appointment using a clean razor. It really helps prevent irritation and gives the laser the best chance to work effectively.
Once you start your laser journey, it’s shaving only from here on out. Say goodbye to wax strips your future hair-free self will thank you.
2. No Tan Lines, Please
I know, we all love that tan glow, but sun exposure and laser are not a match. You’ll need to give your skin a little break. Avoid sunbathing or tanning beds for at least two weeks before your session.
Why? Tanned skin (even from a sun bed) can make your laser hair removal session less effective, and we don’t want that! Plus, it can increase the risk of burns or pigmentation changes. The same goes for fake tan. If you’ve used any self-tanner or spray tan, let it fade at least 7 days before your session, and make sure to exfoliate gently. We want your skin to be as close to its natural tone as possible, which helps the laser do its thing and focus on the hair, not the tan.
3. Come Clean, Girl!
For the day of your session, think of it like prepping for a fun day out. You're showing up with fresh, clean skin! Skip the lotions, oils, deodorant, or perfume (they just get in the way). Just gently cleanse the treatment area and make sure it’s dry before your appointment.
Pro tip: If you use moisturizer, apply it the night before to avoid any buildup, and for the week before your session, avoid harsh exfoliators or active skincare like retinol or glycolic acid.
4. Comfy Clothes, No Tight Stuff!
Laser day is all about comfort. After your session, your skin might feel a little warm, with mild sunburn-like sensations, so you’ll want to dress in loose, breathable clothing that allows your skin to relax. Cotton tees, flowy dresses, or relaxed joggers are your best friends. Tight clothes can rub on your freshly lasered skin, which doesn’t feel great, so pick your favourite comfy clothes that won’t irritate you. If you're treating areas like your underarms or bikini, a loose top or flowy skirt will keep you comfortable and let your soothing aloe gel stay in place.

Laser Hair Removal Prep FAQs
Does it hurt?
Nope! It’s not as bad as you might think. Most people describe it as a quick snap, like a tiny rubber band flick. For more sensitive spots (like the bikini line), you might feel a little zing, but it’s over fast. Plus, our laser has a cooling system that makes it way more comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
It’s not a one-time fix, babe. Most people need 6-8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. But don’t worry the hair gets finer and lighter with every session. After you’re done, you just need a quick top-up once a year to keep things smooth.
How should I care for my skin after?
No hot showers, saunas, or intense workouts for 24–48 hours. Keep it gentle and moisturize with aloe vera gel, plus wear SPF if you’re heading outside. Your skin will be glowing.
You're all set for your first session! Our Laser Me Out family is available if you would like to talk or if you have any questions. We can't wait to assist you on your path to hairless, smooth skin. You deserve to glow up, so go ahead and do it!
